Autumn Orange Bourbon Ginger Tea

“Look how far you’ve come!” This is definitely in my top ten phrases used for self-confidence boosting, motivation, and general mood enhancement. It’s a good one, one that reminds me to look backward instead of forward for a moment. I get so caught up in where I want to be someday that I forget how much I’ve accomplished to get where I am today.

I’ve needed a lot of pep talks from my inner voice this week. I’ve been pushing myself to build photography opportunities, and it has tested my confidence. I’ve scheduled two portrait shoots, two headshot shoots and a group photo. Will I be good enough? Will the clients be happy? Do I know enough about post-processing? What if the light is crummy? And on and on and on.

But when I look back on all the photos I’ve taken before, it’s clear that I’ve improved, slowly and steadily. That helps me BELIEVE that I’m ready for these opportunities. It’s also clear that every time I’ve pushed myself out of my comfort zone, I’ve produced some really beautiful images. So here I go, perhaps a bit nervously, but further toward my dreams.

Maybe it’s a bit early to celebrate; maybe I should wait until after my photo shoots… but what the hell — I’ll go ahead and raise a glass to opportunity and challenges and growth. And anyway, a little booze takes the edge off, right? So this week’s post is a fall cocktail: a blend of chilled black tea with sweet ginger syrup, orange juice and bourbon — the flavors of autumn in a refreshing chilled drink. Enjoy it before the weather gets too cold and we have to switch to hot toddies. Enjoy it and relish in how far you’ve come and how far you’ll go.

Autumn Orange Bourbon Ginger Tea

Ingredients

 Orange juice
¾ cup thinly sliced fresh ginger
1 cup sugar
Black tea bags
Bourbon

Brew 2-3 cups black tea and refrigerate to cool.

In a saucepan combine the sugar, ginger and 1 ½ cups water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for ten minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool.

Once cooled, pour through a mesh strainer, pressing out all the liquids from the solids. Discard solids.

To serve pour 3oz tea, 1oz orange juice, 1 oz ginger syrup, and ½oz whiskey over ice. Stir to mix. Adjust amounts according to taste. Yum.

This is great! I feel like I will be down with a flu or something worse. Perhaps due to the unpredictable weather…I wanted to have something refreshing and something to rejuvenate me from within. This is perfect. the vitamin C in the orange can scratch off the flu virus, and the soothing effect of ginger…Bourbon to relax my nerves. This is the way to go! Thanks a lot!
